Intro

The thing that finally persuaded me to start a blog of my own after months of thinking about it was maymay’s signal boost of Dev’s awesome post about the devaluation of male submission.

Submissive men are obviously awesome (hi, straight dominant woman here), and more people need to speak up about that fact, but what really got to me was maymay’s comment that Dev was saying the same thing he has been for years, but people pay more attention when a dominant woman says it. There are a lot of things wrong with the scene, and I’m not sure how much difference I can really make, but I can add my voice to the growing crowd saying ‘This is wrong. That’s wrong too. Fucking cut it out already!’.

Note: maymay’s name is all lowercase because that’s the way it looks on his blog. See further posts for more ranting about why I think S/slashy speak and capitalization rules are stupid and/or creepy.

  1. Welcome to the blogosphere, indeed. I’m glad you’re here.

My name is lowercase because uppercasing it requires me to press the shift key and I just can’t be bothered. But I will sometimes capitalize it when it’s the first word in a sentence. In other words: my name is case-insensitive.

Also, sometimes, on presentation slides and in handouts in BDSM workshops I used to run, I’ll spell my name “mayMay” just to fuck with S/stupid P/people W/who W/write L/like T/this.

  2. I thoroughly approve of fucking with S/stupid P/people W/who W/write L/like T/this 🙂

I feel kind of silly for worrying that much about capitalization, but I looked back over my post, saw how I had capitalized the names, and thought ‘oh, god, what if people think I’m one of those idiots who say submissive’s names shouldn’t be capitalized?’. Possibly I overthink things.

  3. Stabbity, that sounds like the right amount of thinking about it, not too much. 😉 I’ve fretted about the same thing, with the same result (asking and being told not to worry about it).
